In 2005, Ecolab completed an extensive conversion of an existing 200,000 square foot office facility into a new Research and Development Center providing a variety of advanced laboratory's supporting current and future product lines. Lab environments include Biosafety, analytical (NMR, SEM),a number of environments simulating laundry rooms, kitchens, hotel rooms, hospitals, and pest control 'fly rooms' to name a few. Support systems feature an extensive infrastructure network providing numerous water types and select re-use of existing building systems.
Afternoon tours will be lead by representatives of Ecolab, BWBR Architects, and McGough, followed by a business meeting and dinner at the Ecolab Innovation Center. Representatives of the Owner, Contractor, Architect, and Mechanical Engineer will also deliver the evening presentation, which will provide background and insights from several perspectives.
Bruce Nettleton, Ecolab Director of Engineering and Property, will provide an overview of events leading to the purchase of the building, the reasoning for the design/build approach, corporate goals sought and realized, and the challenges since occupancy.
Ken Seiler, Project Manager for McGough Construction, will discuss teaming with Ecolab and the development of the project as Construction Manager, assembling the team, responsiveness to budget, and the challenges encountered during construction.
Doug Wild will enlighten us on BWBR aesthetic and functional design goals and execution, as well as provide an overview of the laboratories and their functions.
Rex Rundquist will focus on the infrastructure and unique systems employed to serve the RDE labs, the tie-ins to the existing services, and the challenges the design team encountered.
