October Chapter Meeting & Program – Tour of Medtronic Mounds View: Monday October 8, 2007, Mounds View, Minnesota. Join us for an opportunity to tour the new Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management (CRDM) headquarters campus. Medtronic is known for developing life-saving therapies and devices for people around the world. This campus will house the company’s administration, research and development, and marketing departments for implantable pacemakers and defibrillators, monitoring and diagnostic devices and cardiac resynchronization devices and external defibrillators (AEDs). The 85-acre campus near Highway 10 and 35W in Mounds View will be the largest Medtronic facility in the world.

CSI Webinar - Air & Vapor Barriers in Wall Construction, Wednesday, October 3, 2-3:30pm ET. Brian Carey, CSI, Carlisle Coatings & Waterproofing
Objectives: This presentation introduces the benefits and associated code requirements for building envelope air barriers. Different types of air barriers are introduced and discussed. Guidance is provided for selection and use of adhered membrane type air barriers and their incorporation into common wall assemblies.
- Understand the functional requirements of air barriers.
- Know the difference between an air barrier, a vapor barrier and an air/vapor barrier.
- Become familiar with fully adhered membrane air barrier technology and accepted use in wall assemblies.

This workshop begins with inspiring examples of architectural stonework design, a background on sources and properties of natural stone, and in-shop demonstrations of custom limestone fabrication. Attendees will also have hands-on experience with chisel-on-stone, and more advanced shop techniques including special finishes and computerized cutting. Dean McFarlane, tenth generation master stone-carver, will present materials information and demonstrations, and lead tours through a local stone fabrication shop.

This workshop begins with a broad overview of glass, ranging from handcrafted one-off decorative art, through custom residential kitchens and baths, to the mass production of architectural coatings and glazing assemblies, and ultimately, the design of curtainwalls covering the tallest world-class buildings.
